Getting help from Live team …… Easy ….huh?

When I was writing my Stats/techie blog, I had that thing in my statistics that I couldn’t explain so I thought what the hell every one tells me how good Live Team are….. I’ll ask them!

This is what ensued ……..

In the statistics there is an entry, in the page title column “Mandxx” NOT “Mandxx – windows live” as is usual, and with nothing in the referring address column. It happens 2 to 5 times a day.
I have experimented (with the help of friends) and cannot make that happen, always it comes with “-windows live” or the page viewed (guestbook or blog)
Do you know what this is, how it happens or what it means?

Dear Jo-Anne.
Do you people actually read, emails?
I didn’t say there was a problem with the Date at all. My Enquiry was, what did a certain entry mean in the “page title” column, in statistics on Lives Spaces, not in Hotmail, so sending me a link to Live mail support, for hotmail, isn’t really helpful.

Hello Mandxx,

Thank you for writing to Windows Live Spaces Technical Support. My name is Alvin and I understand that the "Referring address" column in your Statistics page is always appearing to be blank. I realize the importance of addressing your concern. [2]

If my understanding is correct, please note that the URL that would appear under the "Referring address" column is the URL of the specific page that was being viewed. If you view your own Blog, the URL that would appear is the address of your Blog itself. If a person views your Blog, still the URL of your Blog will appear on the referring address.

A visitor’s Space name or URL would only show up if the Space is being linked from another Space or site.

On the other hand, if I have missed the point of your e-mail and the information I have provided above is not what you have expected, please reply to this e-mail and please restate your message and provide us with more details so that we can give you the assistance that you need.

We appreciate your continued support as we strive to provide you with the highest quality service available. Thank you for using Windows Live Spaces.

Thank you Alvin for your reply, but it wasn’t "referring address" column, that I was enquiring about, it was "page title" column.

As you see in the pic I attached, there are a number of entries, with the page title "Mandxx"  normally this would be shown as "Mandxx – windows live" . The entries have only recently (relatively) started appearing and I was wondering how this entry comes about, what "page" isn’t in windows live? (there is no referring address either)

The pic I attached, has loads of them, but normally there would be equal numbers, of "mandxx" and "Mandxx-windows live" entries.

Yours Mandxx [3]

Hello Mandxx,

Before I agree to that, how long will my account be unavailable?

It’s not a real problem I’m just curious, and don’t particularly want to lose complete access, just to find out why this happens

Mandxx [5]

Hello Mandxx,

Thank you for writing back to Windows Live Spaces Technical Support. This is Shiony. You mentioned that you want to know how long your account will be unavailable. I understand that this is important to you.

Thankyou for your reply….. I think I will be declining my permission, this isn’t a problem, only a curiosity, I was hoping that some one (with knowledge) would just look at my attached screenshot and say "this happens because …….." As Alvin did (in highlighted area) when he thought I was referring to "referring address" column!

Maybe you should just let Alvin see the screenshot …..?

Mandxx [7]

Hello Mandxx,

Thank you for writing back to Windows Live Spaces Technical Support. This is Alvin and I understand that you are inquiring about your "Mandxx" page. I realize the importance of addressing this matter.

Mandxx, please know that when the "Madxx" page is viewed, it means that your Space page (http://wobblyone2.spaces.live.com) was viewed. The reason why no Web address appear in the "Referring address" column is blank is because it was viewed by directly typing in your Space Web address above. However, when a page was viewed in your Profile or Space by clicking on a hyperlink, the Web address from where it was viewed will be displayed.

We appreciate your continued support as we strive to provide you with the highest quality service available. Thank you for using Windows Live Spaces.

Thank you Alvin for replying but as I explained somewhere down there, [9] It’s not the referring address column I’m referring to, but thankyou for explaining again, what no entry in it, means.

The "Mandxx" in the page title column appears with out the usual "-windows live" attached, so …….

Instead of      "Mandxx-Windows Live" …….. I get     "Mandxx"      only in the page title column,

Nadia seemed to understand ….. how come no one else does?

Mandxx [10]

I gave up at this point ……..

                               ——————————————————————

[1] A little sarky, I guess, but wasn’t having the best of days!

[2] Make a mental note of the wording here, you may see it again

[3] Duly attached screenshot, via newly acquired skill. With highlighted areas.

[4] Alarmed at suggestion, of losing all Live facilities.

[5] Somewhat less sarcastic now!

[6] So now it’s become a bug? Or are they playing this game better than me?

[7] Ok I was starting to get into the game too, and admit to taking the pee a little

[8] Er….. didn’t we already have this conversation

[9] All the replies were attached still

[10] Ok Now I am really taking the p*ss

[11] Thank God for Nadia

[12] Game set and match to Therese!

Update:

After all that I’ve worked it out for my self, well and a visit from some one on the stats! This appeared last night. It seems that the sort of entry I’m talking about ie "Mandxx" without the "windows live" tag, is when some one visits your space on a mobile (cell) phone!! So thanks Live team for your not very helpful, help!

  1. Brien says:

I say nice things about MS support now and then but I also have had this kind of terrible runaround with abuse@live.com where they showed no understanding of the problem or should I say no attempt to understand. Then in other contexts they are great.

  2. Mandy says:

Yeah Brien, I know, I have to say I was highly amused as the emails went on …… and I think they may have been too! In reporting abuse I have had no help, not even an acknowledgement from them, but in reporting a tech problem with my messenger, they were really on the ball!

  3. Jen says:

Aw my gawd! It does look a bit familiar. I forget what I was asking about some while back; something technical and they wanted to have my full details and get into my account which may have been inaccessible while they were playing jiggery-pokery and I really didn\’t fancy that. It wasn\’t important enough.Hey gang – anyone having trouble with the blog server? I can\’t get any bloody thing to work tonight!

  4. Ray says:

10/10 for effort Mandy, I don\’t think I would have had your patience…..

  5. Ray says:

I uploaded pics earlier and lost \’em all Jen….Also notes and PM\’s were not working.

  6. Jen says:

Nyaaa – Ray. Then it ain\’t just me. It\’ll survive till Sunday, then. I so wanted to share my day with everyone as it was so beautiful. C\’mon Microsoft. Please fix it like the professionals I know you are…

  7. Tracey says:

Good heavens!! Very alarming when you consider the folks with serious problems who don\’t get any help!! Have to wonder what those people are getting paid for.

  8. Tom says:

They are always nice, but it is tiresime going thru their processes.

  9. Mandy says:

@ Jen no problems at all last night! Just went to bed early!

  10. Mandy says:

@Ray to be honest I was having a little bit of fun with it, but got a bit bored going round and round in circles!

  11. Mandy says:

@Tracey ………… they leave and go to Facebook!

  12. Mandy says:

@Tom, I started to wonder if there is only a couple of people actually work there, but they all use the same three names!Therese being their big guns, as it were!

  13. FATMAN says:

When Shall I kill them all, I have automatic rifle loaded and I am ready to go on your signal… Lets not get our wires crossed like they do…. Average age of windows support team is 3-4 and is run out of a kindergarten or perhaps they are enjoying their confusion having not taken their sedatives for the day..

  14. Mandy says:

@Don ……… Lol it certainly sounds like! Maybe loaded rifles are a bit of overkill though Don (sorry about the pun) How custard pie flinging!

  15. FATMAN says:

I\’ll get right on and bake some, hard to carry in holsters though, but I am sure it is not impossible hahah

  16. Jen says:

It\’s still not working today so I\’ve about had it with blogging! Now, we\’ve got more updates coming this week. That\’s probably what all the kerfuffle is about. But I\’m left dangling and not being able to blog. If it doesn\’t start up again, I\’ll have to pop off altogether as that\’s what having a Space is all about, surely? If I can\’t share anything, I\’ll have to delete all the Essentials stuff, which means I won\’t be on here anymore.

  17. Mandy says:

Hold fire Jen, these problems tend to be sorted after a while,if they are internet problems and your on here so that\’s not it, ? try total delete on essentials and reinstall

  18. Jen says:

I could do all that here, but the problem\’s not on my side. Writer has always had a server problem, Mand, and it\’s never been fully resolved since TG and I had that first one. Everyone else is blogging but I\’m not? What have I done? Now, none of you can have the news I so wanted to share yesterday.

  19. Mandy says:

Have you tried using the online bogging page? Doesn\’t that work either?

  20. Mandy says:

    oops BLOGGING not bogging!

  21. Jen says:

Yes. Service unvailable. And, I\’ve just found out, via the Uninstall programs in Control Panel that Live Writer isn\’t on the list, so I can\’t lop it off and start again. No time today. Mind you, I went back to the latest Live blog and got an answer from Antonia who said she\’d passed a message on for it to be loked into. They\’re so good on there. But it doesn\’t help me if I can\’t get in anymore. Maybe I\’ll just have to bung this Space and start again. Dunno yet. Can\’t do anymore today, I have Radio to be getting on with!(Psst: I once wrote "bog", too, when I meant "BLOG"! Nyaaa)…

  22. Mandy says:

Just looked to see if it\’s on mine Jen and it is, control panel>add remove programs*>Windows live essentials, if you go to change/uninstall Live writer is on the list! (* or Vista equivalents )

  23. Jen says:

Well, it wasn\’t on mine. I had three listed, Movie Maker Beta, Photo Gallery and I can\’t remember the other! Nothing like SkyDrive, Writer, or any of those were on there. I\’ll dig in tomorrow and see if I can get \’em off the Taskbar Menu.

  24. Mandy says:

I\’ve got – messenger, mail, photo gallery, toolbar and writer. Maybe that\’s your problem???

  25. Jen says:

Yikes – just looked on the Taskber Menu. They\’re all on there! But no Uninstall feature. I can\’t help how things get put on – it\’s done, again, from a Server! Funny, too, that the ones within Control Panel – Add/Remove are different to the ones listed in All Programs. Gawd, what a calamity!

  26. Mandy says:

try uninstalling ALL live essentials, from ad/remove, then re installing all again?(it may help if you do a "regcure" in the middle?)

  27. Jen says:

Yup, that\’s what I wanted this morning, but you can\’t remove what ain\’t listed! I\’ll leave things for now. Give it a week, maybe, then decide what to do. Trouble is, I\’ve got a rather busy week coming up and can\’t spend too much time tinkering as I just haven\’t got the time. Meanwhile, I was testing other ways of blogging. I imagine the one I kept trying to shove through must be on their end a number of times from the messages I was getting. I rewrote the thing and even that wouldn\’t go, yet a tiny text one passed. I checked the pictures to see if the format was wrong but it wasn\’t, as other .jpg ones have been used, time and again, so it isn\’t that, either. Anyway, Mand – thanks heaps! I must go \’n\’ get ready for the day ahead. Least I can still do that;-) Have a lovely day and take care. That goes for all of you here.

  28. Mandy says:

If they are showing on your task bar they seem to be there, so just remove what you have and download essentials, again, if they are already on your PC, they won\’t come up in the list again! Online blogging can have an off day, especially if they are doing an update. And I doubt that it\’s the same problem as you\’re having with live writer, have you tried to save to draft online, if it won\’t do that either, copy and save somewhere and re try later!

  29. Jen says:

Done all that! Actually, that was one of the workarounds I blogged about the last time this happened. I could save a Draft copy to edit online the last time this happened. Not this time, though. None of it is working.

  30. Mandy says:

I doubt that the online blog page has the same problem as desktop, Live writer. (it\’s not part of the Essentials package) I\’m not sure that we\’re talking about the same thing? Just to be sure ….. I meant when you do a blog using online edit window, then save to draft.

  31. Mandy says:

Oh well have a good day radio- ing, anyway!

  32. Zeynep says:

Oh, hope all things are okay now. Have a good weekend Mand xxhttp://www.candycomments.com/images/weekend/images/weekend_comments_12.gif

  33. Zeynep says:

You cannibalist you, lol… By the way, thanks for stopping by!

  34. Mandy says:

Update to "Getting Help from Live Team" on bottom of blog!

  35. Tracey says:

Ha! Maybe you could let those idiots know?

  36. Ray says:

Oh well, we know now, thanks Mandy!

  37. Jen says:

Delete all comm\’s about Writer if ya like, Mand. All is well, now.

  38. Jeffrey says:

Mandy – OMG! WOW! By the way, are you sitting down? I completely missed this post because there was no update. I checked the RSS back to Feb 15th – way before this post. There are two comments in there regarding this post, but I\’m seeing 37 here. Don\’t ask me what\’s going on. I should be, at the very least, seeing your own comments to this post. Something is really wrong. And this post! I can\’t believe you survived this! Geez!

  39. Mandy says:

LOL ………… Maybe Live didn\’t like the tone of my blog ? LOL ……… Big Brother, hhhmmmm?

  40. Greg says:

This font makes my head hurt.

  41. Mandy says:

Greg …… have you ever posted a comment on one of my blogs, about the content of the blog. rather than the colour or the font I use? It isn\’t actually the font I put it on in, I posted on the pc XP OS but for some reason changes on Vista. to this. I don\’t know why

  42. Greg says:

You bet I have. Remember the fun we had with the Virgin poster a few weeks back? You used to use a comic sans font that was much easier on the eye. But this font does present a readability challenge, and I just wanted to say so. No offense intended!

  43. Mandy says:

Sorry……. I forgot about the virgins 😉 (Tired and I may be being touchy … apologies!!) …….. This is published in comic sans the same as then, but when I go on the laptop with Vista on it, it changes the font to whatever it is that you see, (or are you using windows 7). If you still have XP on anything try it, comic sans I promise!

  44. Brien says:

Mandxx and Greg, I was on Windows 7 and IE8 reading your comments on the italicized font. I jumped to XP and IE7 on Mandxx\’s suggestion. It\’s showing the same font, not Comic Sans. I think it\’s normal behavior to show an italic face when a decorative font like Comic is not available. Either the HTML of your post is corrupt or perhaps your font is? Only a guess, but it\’s not XP vs Win 7. Brien

  45. Jen says:

Oh, so that\’s what the font is. I did wonder! Is Mr. Edwards grumbling again? Cheer up, Greg. I\’ve done enough of that here for the both of us;-)

  46. Mandy says:

HHHmmmm Brien but isn\’t comic sans still available, I know it is on the live writer on Vista on laptop, as I just downloaded Writer on my laptop, it is still available on the blog edit page online here.

  47. Brien says:

I did a little test and did not see the font change between XP and Win 7http://bikestrong.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!50334519A558B86C!777.entry

  48. Brien says:

Sorry to write a 3rd post but I just noticed everything in your blog, headings and all, seems to be Lucida Handwriting or something similar. It\’s not just your post.

  49. Mandy says:

Yeah I know Brien I looked on my laptop too! But it is all in Comic Sans (and you can post as often as you want!)I\’m on my pc XP I wrote and posted the blog in live writer (latest version) I used comic sans, comic sans, is the font on My Space. I see comic sans when I\’m on the pc. (now) When I\’m on my laptop with vista it\’s all in Lucdia ………… sorry but WTF?????

  50. Greg says:

No worries, Mandy, and sorry if I came off preachy. Thinking about this, since the font is applied to your entire space (not just your post but your comments, too), I\’m guessing it has something to do with your space\’s overall theme. You might check Customize > Advanced > Font. I looked there, and Comic Sans isn\’t a choice anymore. Most are boring, corporate type fonts (the kind that would drive Dave nuts). Lucida is the only "handwriting" style font you can select to give your space a "less formal" look. Lucida isn\’t so hard to read by itself, but when it\’s all in rather large italics, it strains the eyes a bit. It\’s possible to use font\’s other than those provided by WL Spaces within posts (that\’s what Brien did to get Comic Sans to work in his post), but you have to manually select text and apply the font each time, and that\’s just a lot of work. It\’s far easier to just pick at space-level style that works for all your text and be done with it.

  51. Mandy says:

Ah…Ha! I should have thought of that!!! DOH ( having suggested same, to various people when a space has disappeared!)Thanks Greg I\’ll try that! but it\’s strange that Comic sans is still available in writer and on line blog edit!

  52. Mandy says:

Ok it\’s now Segoe, actually I quite like it. It\’s works for me! I\’m just thankful no one suggested I write to LiveSupport! 😉

  53. Greg says:

Woo hoo! Looks much easier to read! Thanks Mandy!

  54. Brien says:

Hoo Ha! I second Greg\’s comment. Much easier …

  55. Cynical says:

They won, Mandxx. Segoe is the default font in LiveWriter now. I discovered this when They took away my beloved Lucida Calligraphy font. If this happens again, be sure to contact LiveSupport as they realize the importance of addressing the matter.
